Cyborg 101: Five Facts about the Millennial Justice League Member
Justice League . Sponsored Content . 2 Minutes . Eric Silver
The Justice League movie brings together iconic heroes like Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Aquaman. But if Cyborg, another founding member of the ultimate super-team, is new to you, here’s a little background on where he comes from, what his powers are, and how you can soon soar through the air just like him.
1. He's got some father issues.
Vic Stone was a star athlete in school, but could never seem to impress his father, a scientist at S.T.A.R. Labs. When Vic visits his father at the lab, an explosion destroys half of his body (general PSA: DC Universe laboratories do not have good safety records). Vic’s father saves his life by rebuilding Vic with cybernetic parts and bleeding-edge technology.
2. He's the ultimate hacker.
Cyborg exists in both the real and virtual worlds at the same time. His cybernetic enhancements (thanks, dad!) give him the powers of flight, superhuman strength, endurance, and speed. His cybernetic eye and aural implants give him enhanced sight and hearing, and he possesses an array of tools that put Batman’s utility belt to shame.
And he's also got a great mid-air catch:
3. He's got a huge following from the Teen Titans animated series.
As Forbes points out, "If you have kids or are young enough to be a kid over the last decade, give or take, then you’ve had plenty of exposure to Cyborg through the various DCAU animated incarnations." Best-of-Cyborg clips from Teen Titans have more than a million YouTube views.
4. He's a Millennial hero.
Cyborg—an 80s baby and true Millennial hero—has risen to prominence as one of the more influential and powerful heroes of the DC Universe. And he's expected to continue to hit it off with Justice League's other young hero, the Flash, in future DCEU films. Bromance, anyone?
5. Cyborg's inspired a high-tech new ride at Six Flags.
And it looks wild. The ride, planned to open in 2018, is described by Six Flags as "a unique futuristic triple box design that allows the gondola to spin around three separate axes while rotating forward, backwards and sideways simultaneously at up to 70 feet in the air for intense and continuous movement." Sounds perfect for people super-strong stomachs.
