This week we have two more artists joining us to perform as part of our summer concert series; Jacob Banks and The Rolling Stones. Read up on both of our guests before their shows stream in 4K and ultra HD this weekend, exclusively with AUDIENCE and DIRECTV 4K.
July 13 - Jacob Banks
Brit artist Jacob Banks is kicking off the weekend with a performance on AUDIENCE Network. Wearing one of his signature beanies, the up and coming R&B/Soul singer sat down with us to talk about life, his new projects, and the philosophy behind his work.
Banks, who is originally from Nigeria but moved to Birmingham at age 13, has always been interested in the arts. He feeds into his creative side by directing his own music videos as well as writing and recording all of his own music. Banks also plays guitar and draws inspiration from his African roots whenever he can.
After releasing his first EP, The Monologue, in 2013, Banks captured the hearts of fans all over the world. Even artists like Sam Smith and Alicia Keys fell in love with his unique and soulful sound – so much so, that they both asked him to support them on their respective tours. His latest project, The Boy Who Cried Freedom, also caught the attention of Billboard magazine, with them describing the EP as “plain, old-fashioned, great music.”
Banks hopes to introduce a new generation to soul music with his new projects and wants to add a new spin to the genre by adding electronic, alternative, and R&B elements. Check out a preview below of what Banks has in store before his show airs this Friday, July 13 at 9pm on AUDIENCE. And, if you like what you see, you can see Banks live at this year’s AFROPUNKFEST in Brooklyn, NY (August 26).
July 14 - The Rolling Stones: Havana Moon
In March of 2016, The Rolling Stones made music history by holding a free concert in Havana, Cuba. Over 700,000 fans were in the audience – plus the 500,000 who listened in from outside of the event, making it the most widely attended event in Cuban history since its 1959 revolution.
The concert, which they named Havana Moon, was the band’s first performance in Cuba due to the Castro regime’s infamous ban on Rock & Roll. But, the British group made up for lost time, performing all their biggest hits, including Paint it Black, Gimme Shelter, You Can't Always Get What You Want, and, of course, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.
The Daily Telegraph called the concert “epic and history making” and the Sunday Express added that they’ve “never seen anything quite like it.”
There is no doubt that this was a concert that will be talked about for years to come and you can catch up on all the action this Saturday, July 14 exclusively in 4K on DIRECTV Channel 104!
